Bringing Diversity to City Council

"The diversity of Hillsboro enriches our community. We, the voters of Hillsboro, have an opportunity to elect three qualified candidates with diverse backgrounds, experience, and vision to the Hillsboro City Council. They include Abdi Muse, Brenda McCoy and Sandra Jafarzadeh.
Hillsboro is growing and changing rapidly and the voices of women and minorities are essential in the ranks of city government. Unfortunately, at the end of this year city councilor Olga Acuña —the only woman and fluent Spanish speaker on the council — is terming out."

"The success of the high-tech sector locally has brought previously unimagined prosperity to Hillsboro. New industry has provided job opportunities to locals and imported newcomers at all levels of the social ladder — from CEOs to migrant laborers, software engineers to housekeepers, as well as schoolteachers, medical providers, and law enforcement. No matter our views on race and immigration, wealth and welfare, the truth is that we are all interconnected and interdependent.
The current city council’s singular focus on business development has been detrimental to the welfare of our citizens. We do not want two Hillsboros divided along socio-economic lines: the haves and the have-nots. We want to be a community unified in addressing the needs of all families, regardless of the neighborhoods they live in or the languages they speak in their homes.
We are a smart and global city and a kind and compassionate community. We know that the voices of men, women, whites and nonwhites must all be represented in political decision-making.
Muse, McCoy and Jafarzadeh have prioritized people first in their campaigns. They have centered their platforms on the needs of children and families, by focusing on homelessness, low-income housing, medical services, public transportation, education, and clean air and water. They remind us that the best communities are those that make plans to include everyone and envision Hillsboro as a world class city."
